Skills Board One Year Review of Smart and Skilled

10 August 2015

In January 2015 the NSW Government launched Smart and Skilled, a major milestone for the reform of vocational education and training in NSW. The NSW Government is committed to a series of reviews of Smart and Skilled. The first of these is a review of the first year of implementation. The independent NSW Skills Board has commissioned an external company, the Nous Group, to conduct Stage 1 of the review and make recommendations to the NSW Skills Board. The first phase of the review will be completed by the end of October 2015 and the final phase by the end of April 2016.

The objectives of the review are to assess the:

•             effectiveness of the provider application, assessment and administrative processes including options for enhancement;

•             adequacy of the application process with regard to provider experience, industry and regional connections, and resources to connect graduates to jobs;

•             preparedness and responsiveness of providers including communication with and support for students;

•             policy settings within which the VET reforms have been implemented and their effect on outcomes; and

•             impact of budget settings on the implementation of the reforms.
