Expectations and destinations of NSW senior secondary students

This survey was undertaken in 2013 as follow up to 2010 research exploring the expectations, engagement and destinations of Year 10 to Year 12 students and early school leavers The study explored the experiences of students as they transition through their final years of schooling, and the factors that influence their further education, training and employment pathways. This included investigating student, parent and teacher understandings of vocational options and pathways to the full range of tertiary study including higher education, including VET in Schools experience.

Skills List - Review of Methodology

The NSW Skills List was developed using a wide ranging three stage methodology which included analysis of industry, occupations and qualifications, consultation with industry to determine priority occupations and qualifications, and modelling to assess the impact of potential changes. In order to evaluate this process, the NSW Skills Board has commissioned a project to review the methodology used to develop the NSW Skills List.

Factors affecting the demand for higher level VET qualifications by students from low SES backgrounds

The influence of student socio-economic status (SES) on participation and achievement in education and training has long been recognised. It is well known that people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds are less represented in higher level VET qualifications (variously defined as Certificate III or Certificate IV and above) and in higher education.

One Year Review of Smart and Skilled

In January 2015 the NSW Government launched Smart and Skilled, a major milestone for the reform of vocational education and training in NSW. The NSW Government is committed to a series of reviews of Smart and Skilled. The first of these is a review of the first year of implementation. The independent NSW Skills Board has commissioned an external consulting company to conduct the review and make recommendations to the NSW Skills Board. The first phase of the review will be completed by the end of October 2015 and the final phase by the end of April 2016.
